Grocery budget 9/1-9/7

So when I decided to go on a weekly budget 2 weeks ago I wasnt including weekend food, I dont know why I never planned the menu to include Saturday Sunday I just never thought of it, well this week I did! I planned the menu for next week and did all 7 days, Monday-Sunday! I am so cool I know, you dont have to tell me!
The menu will be posted on Monday but since we are going camping we wont be able to do are regular weekend shopping, so I did ti this afternoon, I took N with me on the walk, what an adventure, it made her tired though so thats good! Anyways back to the budget, here is what I bought

thats
3 loaves of Sara lee bread regular price 3.09 got all 3 FREE
2 cans of chili beans 1.19 each
2 bags shredded chese 1.50 each
1 head of ice burg 1.29
hotdog buns 1.00
total 7.93
67% savings!

I put 2 loaves of bread in the freezer and as soon as I get the rest of them (I have 7 more coupons left) I am going to freeze them too!

I started with only 18.00 so that leaves me with 10.07 for the rest of the week, now I must tell you, there is a caselot sale comming on 9/3 if it doesnt go until 9/15 (usually they are 2 weeks) then i am going to have to dip inot our funds to get a few things i need to stock up on, thats just the way thats going to go! but I will stick with my 18.00 budget for meals! deal? deal!

A review of the week!

Well it is Friday, I thought I would start of with a review of the week, It was the first week of school and it was great for H, L not so much, Monday she had a Dr appointment, blood work, and all that fun stuff, also Monday she got pulled over, no ticket however she was sited for not changing her address on her CDL, then yesterday DMV (not so bad if you find the one that no one really knows about) and another Dr's appointment, My week, well I didn't get all of my flying done, but since we have such a small living room, after working my butt off on Tuesday, and doing all the challenges, I think it looks pretty good in here!

Now for the weekend, we are going camping, its the first time we have gone as a family L went when she was younger, and I wen with my grandparents alot when I was younger, but I keep getting told that it wasn't really camping, since we were in a massive RV, I still say it was camping, I know alot about camping, like keep your food in the car or else the bears will get you! We are hoping that all goes well this trip. Its going to be the three of us, L's mom, L's little sister, and L's little sisters dad (not L's moms husband or L's dad) hopefully between the 6 of us, we wont forget anything. There is a chance of rain and even some snow at about 8500 feet, we are going to be at about 7500 so if it gets too wet, cold, windy, snowy we will just pack up and come home., or maybe we will rough it, who knows!

Well there is alot of things that I have to get done today, to make it easier when we get home, and to get ready for camping here is a list of things that I can remember!

1. iron
2. 1 load of laundry, a little bit about this, since I have been doing one load almost everyday this month, I have to tell you, right now there is a half load in the hall waiting for H to add her clothes to, there is 2 pairs of white socks in our hamper and after H adds her clothes there will be 1 pair of socks in hers, that's it! there isn't pile of laundry sitting around waiting to be washed, folded or put away, I love it, when we get back from camping, we are going to take all of our "gear" to the laundry mat and get it all done that way on Tuesday, when life goes back to normal, I will still only have to do one load a day! okay back to the list....
3. Grocery store, for ice burg lettuce, and a few groceries for next week, the list is really short!
4. empty the dishwasher
5 clean out the fridge (menu for next week is already planned, I even did the weekends, you will see that on Monday)
6. make corn bread

that's all I can think of right now I have about 45 minutes before I have to wake up H I guess, I will go do the ironing....

Works for me Wednesday- back to school

This is my very first time participating in this blog carnival over at rocks in my dryer , I am beginning to like these things! here's how it goes every Wednesday a bunch of bloggers get together and post there tips on what makes their life's run a little smoother, I love this idea! so here is what works for me (well really L and H, but whatever it was my idea)

Every day H comes home from school, hands me a stack of papers, some notes from the teacher, some little reminders about whatever is going on , some old graded papers. Last year, H would hand them to me I would look at them, and throw them out, or keep them depending what it was, and L would come home I would tell her about it but she would never see them. So yesterday while I was sitting at the table with H a light went off in my head! I took a folder, free at staples this week, wrote on it, "papers for L, from H" it is now sitting on the corner of the kitchen table, where L puts all her stuff (keys wallet whatever) when she gets home from work. Genius! Now not only does L get to see all that's going on with H's school H and I don't have to worry about what we did with the papers after I look at them, they just go straight into the folder!

Whats on your nightstand?

What's On Your Nightstand

I found this blog, 5 minutes for books and I love it! They have a section called whats on your nightstand? right now I am reading, Wuthering Heigths, because I just got done reading the first 3 books of the Twilight series, and the main character Bella is always quoting it so I now have to read it so I know what the heck she is talking about! The other 2, Recipes from the Dump by Abigail Stone and High Noon by Nora Roberts, I just picked up on our last trip to the library. L is reading (when she gets the chance) Stolen Innocence by Elissa Wall. H is reading a book called "dear diary, lets pretend this never happened" she got the first 3 books of the series she also started reading mysteries. So now that you know whats on our nightstands, desk, end table and locker at work whats on yours?

Shopping or stealing you be the judge!!

I had to go to the store to use up the last of my free crystal light wyb coupons, so I got a few other things that were on sale heres what I got

H, our little genius!

Today was the first day of school! H already had homework! well it wasn't really homework, just a story about what she did for the summer and a questionnaire type thing, and of course she had to do her reading after all that! She likes her teacher, and it turns out there are more kids in her class then we first thought, she says there are like 30, her teacher told them that they are going to be treated like 5th graders not 4th graders, I wonder what will happen when she is in 5th grade? I caught this picture while I was dropping off laundry, I prefer taking pictures when they aren't posed

Shopping

we went to walmart to get our grocery's this week, we had to pick up L's perscription so we were already there any way while we were there I thought we should use up some of our coupons, heres what we got (sorry no picture)

8 Glade scented oil warmers 3.94 each used 8 4.00/1 and got .48 overage (woo hoo)
10 Kotex light days 1.00 each used 10 1.00/1 so they were free
2 glade sprays .88 each, now that I think about it, I am pretty sure there is a bogo coupon somewhere!
1 High School Musical lunch box 6.34 (we weren't going to get H a new one, but its the "old school" style so I thought it was cute)

total 10.95
of that 3.37 was tax

8/25-8/29 weekly budget

well it didnt work out! we only needed a few more things, and I was sure that I could do it, but today we went shopping heres what we bought

1 loaf bread (2 .25/1 coupons)
2 jars ragu
vegetable oil
4 extra gum (had bogo coupon)
4 cans of tuna
24 top ramen
10#'s potatoes
12 pack water
total 20.77 (doesnt seem very good huh?)

so we went over by 3.25

Money left over for grocery for the month (Sept 15 the grocery month ends) 36.25 which breaks down to about 18.00 per week!

I have some of the free Sara Lee bread coupons coming soon, so that will help, also we are watching the ads for cheap fruits and veggies, last week we got oranges 8#'s for .99, that was exciting, I didnt deduct that part because we just used a few dollars that we had laying around.

Meal Planning Monday

Monday again! except today is a special Monday! Its "the first day of 4th grade in the gifted program monday" we are so proud of H for getting in! you have to be chosen for this class, be in the top 20% and in her class there are only 15 students!
Now our menu, that is nothing special! here it is

Monday- Spagetti, Texas Toast, corn on the cob
Tuesday- roast in the crock with, potatoes and carotts and cornbread
Wednesday- Sheppards pie, (use leftover roast or ground beef)
Thursday- Pork chops, rice and corn on the cob
Friday- we are going camping, so no meal planned!

For more ideas, recipes and menus check out Im an organizing junkie!

Yummy Peaches

H made Yummy Peaches the other day for dessert, they came out good, and it is going to help get rid of some of the cand of peaches we have!! I made her do it all by herself, all I did was get out the ingredients that she would need. She wants to be a chef so she has to start at some time! Here is a picture, (not very pretty) we put cool whip on top.

8/25-8/29 weekly budget

I know its not next week yet, but I already dipped into our 20.00 budget so I guess I will start early, here is what we got,

I think we can do it! I already started on the menu for next week and we are not going to need too much stuff, especially if I can get my dirty little hands on a few of those Free Sara Lee bread coupons that came out! I only want 3!!!

Fly Lady

This Fly Lady thing is really starting to take away from my coupon time! I don't think I have spent more then 10 minutes a day on Hot coupon world for the last 2 weeks! Not that that's a bad thing, I was just saying! Also I am a cheater, I'm a fraud! I haven't gone to bed with a shiny sink in days! I just don't like to clean the kitchen! I do like to come down in the morning to a shinny kitchen, but I don't want to be the one to do it, maybe I can get a fairy to come in and do it! (doubt it!) I guess I just have to get it done!

Things left to do for zone 4;
1. CLEAN COBWEBS
2. WASH MATTRESS PAD/DUST RUFFLE (don't have this either)

clean desk, file shred or toss

Tonight for dinner we are supposed to have corn for a veggie, but L brought home the biggest Banana Squash ever, so I am going to find something to do with that, maybe just bake it, I don't know! well time to get started on this messy desk!

8/19/08

Fly Lady

Today is "big list day!" good thing I have already done alot of it, already this morning! N is not here today but I do have my brother in laws, girlfriends daughter! her name is H too, she is 3 and way more laid back then N! right now she is watching sponge bob, waiting for my H to finish breakfast, so we can go to the park, I know its early but if we dont go now we will never be able to get out, it will be too hot! so here is the list for today;

8/18/08

Fly Lady Zone 4

This week we are going to be working on the master bedroom! In our house it needs alot of work since we have only been going up there to get dressed and put away laundry, we are actually going to start sleeping up there again this week, the weather is finally being nice, and its cooling down alot more in the evening! so here is the big list for the week;

1. POLISH FURNITURE
2. CLEAN OFF THE DESKS (don't have this so we will make it dresser)
3. CLEAN COBWEBS
4. WASH MATTRESS PAD/DUST RUFFLE (don't have this either)
5. FLIP MATTRESS
6. EMPTY TRASH (no trash can in the bedroom)
7. WASH WINDOWS
8. CULL SOME BOOKS FROM BOOKCASE
9. STRAIGHTEN DRAWERS
10. CLEAN UNDER THE BED

master bedroom closet
1. STRAIGHTEN THE TOP SHELVES
2. ARRANGE THE SHOES
3. TAKE SUITCASES TO BASEMENT (change basement to garage)
4. DUST SHOE BOOKCASE (what is this?)

so that's the week, however as I said last week, no flying on Monday!
I will get the short list of regular Monday stuff done that is;
deliver Avon
1 load of laundry (actually this is going to be like 3)
errands, bank, and whatever else needs to get done!

Meal Planning Monday

Its Monday already? where did the weekend go? well I guess I will just deal with it! (really what else can 'ya do?) Over at Im an organizing junky there are tons of other menus (including ours) so go check them out.... this week on the menu;

Monday-Taco salad strawberry sensation for dessert
Tuesday- Pork chops with mushroom sauce over egg noodles, green beans
Wednesday-baked chicken, pasta side, corn and Yummy peaches for dessert
Thursday- lasagna (from the freezer and by that I mean I bought it frozen, not a pre made freezer meal, I don't do that) Texas toast, green beans
Friday- Sloppy Joe's

So that's it, next week we are going to be on our strict 20.00 or less grocery budget, the ads are coming out within the next few days so any money spent from the grocery budget will be logged in the blog (I didn't mean for that to rhythm, it just worked out that way)

8/16/08

Good Morning! yes its 915 and I slept in until 830! wowsa! that hasn't happened in a while! anyway today there is alot to get done, for Fly Lady i have to;

SCRUB/WAX FLOOR
WASH SHOWER DOOR (we just have a curtain)
CLEAN SCALE
WIPE DOWN THE TOP OF THE WASHER AND DRYER
CLEAN THE GUNK FROM UNDER THE WASHER LID

For us I have to;
vacuum
make strawberry whipped sensation
cook 16 ears of corn
get ready for H's "welcome home" picnic/BBQ at the park

the "party" is at 430 so I have plenty of time! but I should get it done cause you know what they say "the sooner the better" or something like that!

Last night we went shopping and bought a ton of meat I mean A TON! we only have about 60.00 left in our grocery budget for the month! I am going to try really really hard to make it happen without dipping into our other money. I already have the menu done for 8/18-8/22, so for the next 3 weeks I am going to try to make menus that I only need to spend 20.00 or less (hoping for the less), I am sure I can do it! Last night we bought, 14 #s of ground beef (14 dinners), 50 chicken drumsticks (10 dinners and a few leftover lunches), 12 pork chops (4 dinners), 2 racks of ribs (2 dinners), and 2 beef roasts (2 dinners and lunches) so that's already more then 30 dinners! mostly we wil just have to buy the regular stuff, bread, fruits and veggies. Now to find different recipes so that we don't get bored! We also have a gallon of milk in the freezer and more then half in the fridge so we are probably going to be good there too! well I will keep a record here and see how well we do! (wish us luck)

8/15/08

Friday Recipe Swap

Every Friday, Gayle over at the Grocery Cart Challenge hosts a recipe swap, this is my first time doing it, since I was already going threw my recipes I thought I would enter. Here is my entry, I am going to have H make it next week for dessert, maybe on Tuesday, any ways here it is,

Yummy Peaches
2- 15oz cans peaches in light syrup
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cups oats
1/4 cup margarine
2 tsp cinnamon

drain peaches and put in a baking dish, sprinkle oats, brown sugar and cinnamon on top of peaches. spoon margarine on top of mixture. Bake at 350 F for 20 minutes

makes 8 servings

Supper easy!!

no flying today!

well here we are again, almost 7 am and I am blogging, I am starting to feel a habit coming on... again I dont think I am going to get any of my "fly" stuff done today, I have N an extra day so here is a list of things that are not going to get done!

for the bathroom;
1. SCRUB/WAX FLOOR
2. WASH SHOWER DOOR (we just have a curtain)
3. CLEAN SCALE

for the Laundry room;
1. WIPE DOWN THE TOP OF THE WASHER AND DRYER
2. CLEAN THE GUNK FROM UNDER THE WASHER LID

However I am going to give it my best shot to make sure that my regular Friday stuff gets done that would be;
Iron
clean out the fridge
meal plan for next week (done)
grocery list (done)
and just for this week I am adding, make an inventory of the stuff in the big freezer

I am feeling a little tired today, so I am hoping I can get everything on my "must do list done" and then the Fly list is going to get finished on Saturday morning (I hope)

8/14/08

Fly Lady

700!! I am Late! well I was working on one of my Thursday things so I am still ahead! here is the list for today;
for the bathroom;
1. WASH AREA RUGS
2. SCRUB/WAX FLOOR
3. STRAIGHTEN DRAWERS/ CABINETS
4. CLEAN SHOWER STALL/ WAX (not the floor!)
5. WASH SHOWER DOOR (we just have a curtain)
6. CLEAN SCALE
7. THROW AWAY EMPTY BOTTLES

for the Laundry room;

2. CLEAN THE GUNK FROM UNDER THE WASHER LID
3. THROW OUT EMPTY BOTTLES AND BOXES

8. LOOK BEHIND APPLIANCES FOR ODD SOCKS

then the regular Thursday stuff;
Pay bills
one load of laundry, washed, dried, put away
make sure all L's work shirts are clean and ready for Friday
start on H's clothes, we are going threw all her drawers and seeing what fits and what doesn't(how fun)

okay H and I finished all her clothes, she tried on everything she owns! we are getting ready to go back to school shopping, maybe this weekend, it doesn't look like she is in need of too much, but since that took about 2 hours, I have decided not to do anything else from the list today! We are taking H swimming before dinner, then after dinner we have to go run a few errands, so the list will wait, its really not going anywhere!

The challenge for the day (I did the bathtub yesterday, and we don't have a trash in our garage so... I guess I am done!)
"Your next mission is to clean out your bathtub. If you don't do it everyday, the bathtub ring takes on a life of its own. Let's wipe down our tubs and get rid of that ring. If you haven't done it in a while you may need to use a little cleanser. Most of the time a little soap on a rag will take care of it.Your Laundry Room mission for today is to empty the trash cant hat always seems to get forgotten! You will get bonus points if you remember to replace the bag once you take out the used one!"

I am saving the mopping for Saturday, so don't think I didn't do it, I am just putting it off! not really, N is going to be here on Friday (an extra day) so I wont have time to do it, so it will get done on Saturday, before H's welcome home BBQ!

Also a little side note about yesterday, since I didnt have N here and I knew tonight we were having stuffed shells (very time consuming) I made them all yesterday! they are in the fridge waiting for 545, when they will go in, and that is why I love meal planning Mondays!

3 days and no blogging!

Wow I have alot to catch up on! H is home we had such a fun weekend! We went to Build a bear workshop on Saturday and she got to stuff her High School Musical Bear that we got for her while she was gone, Sunday we went to Lagoon with A (L's mom) and Ls little sister, Ls brother and his girlfriend it was so fun, H loves the rides and even got on a few that we thought she would be to scared to get on! Monday she was off again! she is at camp until tomorrow! Its her first time and she was really excited! Also on Monday, we found out that my computer has some sort of virus yuck! we went and got a new protection thing for it, and since what L and I know about computers you could fir on a 3x5 card, we had a hard time installing it! but all is good now! We still have a few questions about it so I am going to live chat with the company later on, now to the good stuff (sorta)

Meal planning Monday (or Tuesday)
Monday- Mexican casserole
Tuesday- baked chicken breast, and veggies, maybe some rice
Wednesday- stuffed shells and salad
Thursday- Pasta carbonara and salad
Friday- chili dogs

Fly Lady stuff, here is what I have decided, Monday nothing is going to get done, no worries, because I do stuff on Saturday instead so here is the list for the week, and the extra stuff! I am not going to do the events, because well most of the stuff I don't do on a regular basis any way and I am trying to get into a routine so that's really not helping! so then here we go the big list for the week first; (stuff in red is already done)

This week is Zone 3 (bathroom and Laundry room)
for the bathroom;
1. WASH AREA RUGS
2. SCRUB/WAX FLOOR
3. STRAIGHTEN DRAWERS/ CABINETS
4. CLEAN SHOWER STALL/ WAX (not the floor!)
5. WASH SHOWER DOOR (we just have a curtain)
6. CLEAN SCALE
7. THROW AWAY EMPTY BOTTLES

for the Laundry room;

1. WIPE DOWN THE TOP OF THE WASHER AND DRYER
2. CLEAN THE GUNK FROM UNDER THE WASHER LID
3. THROW OUT EMPTY BOTTLES AND BOXES
4. CHECK SUPPLIES OF LAUNDRY DETERGENT, SOFTENER,
SPOT REMOVER
5. SWEEP AND MOP THE FLOOR
6. REMOVE THE COBWEBS
7. PUT AWAY ALL CLOTHES
8. LOOK BEHIND APPLIANCES FOR ODD SOCKS

looks pretty simple right? okay now the short list for today;
clean out purse's
weekly home blessing hour, remember that's short for, dust, mop, clean mirrors, throw out magazines, empty all trash cans, change sheets, vacuum, sweep.
don't forget to also do one load of laundry today (I did do that yesterday, actually I did 2)

oh yeah and the zone challenge for today (done);
its simple and it will knock off a thing that I would have to do later on in the week!
"Take your rugs, all the fuzzy stuff on your toilet, and the towels that are just for show and we are going to wash them. While you are in the laundry room grab an old rag or washcloth and wipe down the lid of the washing machine and dryer. I am always shocked at the dust and stuff that seems to just accumulate here. With the rugs in the washer: Sweep the bathroom floor and take a dirty towel and wet it and just mop the floor. When the Rugs are finished put them back in your wonderful smelling bathroom!"

see pretty easy! (yeah right) well I guess I should get to work!

Fly Lady Day 5

So I still have a few things to get done from my big list and then I have my little list to do also, since N is here today I am going to try to get most of it done during her nap, but I think i would probably have a better chance if I started right now (6am) while she is still sleeping.... i haven't decided yet, either way it will be done by the time I go to sleep (hopefully) here's whats on the list for today;

X de-clutter our leftover, food storage, plastic, Rubbermaid, Tupperware, Glad-Ware, etc. containers

8/5 Shopping

We had to go and get our red shirts for Lagoon so we stopped at Walmart, and got that, then as we were leaving we noticed a shopping cart full, I mean full of Sunday papers, L asked me what I thought they did with them, I told her that I thought the newspaper came and picked them up and took them back for recycling, she asked the manager if we could go threw them and get the coupons, the lady said "sure we just throw them out in the dumpster" so we ended up with a TON of inserts, and for all you couponers out there you know that there were 3 sets in the paper! we got about 30 of each!! I have them posted on both of my coupon sites, I am trying to unload them!
After that exciting trip, we headed to Smiths, I didn't do the Mega event at all (for 14 days) I was so proud of myself, but I couldn't hold back any longer! We got,

4 Rice krispie treats (used 2-1.00/2)
6 Kens salad spray (used 6-2.00/1)
10 keebler Cookies (used 5-1.00/2)
After coupons and 2 -5.00 for the event we paid, 11.57! And we are going to send for the mail in rebate that came in the Sunday paper (which I have 32 of!) and get 10.00 back so actually we only paid 1.57 for everything!!

FlyLady Day 3 & 4

I know, I know I fell off the cleaning wagon yesterday, I read all the emails I just didn't do any of the stuff! I am not really sure why, it wasn't a lot, I just didn't do it! I don't have N and L is working so I will make another list, and get it all done! this week we are on Zone 2, the kitchen so I have to finish this longer list at some point by the end of the week so I have to do a few things a day, the things in blue I will get done today, if I do 3 a day I will get it all done by Friday!

EMPTY REFG/CLEAN THOROUGHLY
X CLEAN MICROWAVE INSIDE AND OUT
X CLEAN STOVE/OVEN
WASH CANISTER/KNICK-KNACKS
X STRAIGHTEN DRAWERS/CUPBOARDS
WIPE FINGERPRINTS OFF WALLS
WASH INSIDE WINDOWS
CLEAN FAN/VENT-A-HOOD FILTERS AND HOOD
SCRUB DOWN CABINET FRONTS (only a few at a time)
CLEAN LIGHT DEFUSING BOWLS(GLASS GLOBES OVER LIGHT BULBS)

Also since I didn't Fly yesterday I have a few extra things to do today so here is that list, again when I am done with something I will put a red X by it.

X 2 loads of laundry, washed, dried, folded put away

X empty all trash cans
X change and wash sheets

well that's a pretty big list! I guess if I stay on top of everything I wont have to work so hard! oh well today is a new day! But since its so early I am not going to start just yet! I am going to go and watch Jane Austen's Book Club. I will start knocking stuff of this list at about 9! (okay so its 11 whatever! I am starting now!)

Okay its 1:00 and I am finished with the list (sorta) I have decided that since I did extras, orginized the pantry and picked up the garage, I am going to mop tomorrow, I know I am suppost to do it today, but I think I did more than enough!

So thats it I am done for the day.

WalMart find

I can hear the term "shelf clearer" already! but I don't care, I have been looking for these darn notebooks since they went on sale for .05 and because of other shelf clearer's, like myself (sorta) I have never been able to get them, now I use the term "shelf clearer" very loosely, because i don't know who or how many people bought them it could have been 1 person or it could have been 80, i don't know, what I do know is this, every time I go there is none except Saturday! We went in and headed straight to the back to school section I found 1 box with a few, about 3 they were all massed up, but after further investigation I found a full box of nice pretty notebooks sitting there with my name on it (well not really) then i headed to the actual office section and found 5 more boxes! So technically I did clear the shelf in the front, but if you look in the back there are still (well they were there when I left) 3 boxes sitting there. We are going to donate half of them to H's class and the other ones are already packed up in a box for later use, we paid 3.75 for 75-70 sheet notebooks.

Also on Saturday we went out for my b-day, (it was last Tuesday but if you forgot I am still accepting gifts) I will post pictures later on for whatever reason they are loading funny again!
Just a reminder in case you didn't know Gay Day at Lagoon is August 10, 2008... that can be taken as either a reminder if you want to attend and forgot or as a warning if you were thinking about going on that day...... (lol, I thought that was funny)
If you are going, be sure to wear RED!!!
